Turkey and Bulgaria reach a solution to border issues

After six-hour constructive negotiations between Bulgarian Minister of Transport, Information Technologies and Communications, Danail Papazov, and Turkish Minister of Transportation, Maritime Affairs and Communications Lutfi Elvan, held in Ankara Turkey, the two parties have reached a consensus on the solution of the problems of the Bulgarian road carriers when travelling in Turkey, the press office of the Bulgarian ministry announced.During the negotiations, the two parties set a framework for the preparation of a new Agreement, which to replace the one active since 1977. The two ministers also agreed for the new documents to include the preparation for a full liberalisation of the permit regime, which to cover the bilateral and transit shipments, without the shipments to/from third country. In the working out of the Agreement there will be serious increase of the number of permits from/to third country.In the first week of March expert from the two countries will hold a meeting in Istanbul to work out the draft agreement. The document should be ready by the end of March and after discussions it should inked by the end of April.Meanwhile, IRU sent a letter to welcome the outcome of the meeting. “I am grateful to the Association of Bulgarian Enterprises for International Road Transport and Roads (AEBTRI) and the International Transporters Association of Turkey (UND) for the efforts made to solve the problems at the border between Bulgaria and Turkey.”This is what Secretary General of the International Road Transport Union (IRU), Umberto de Pretto, writers in a letter sent to AEBTRI and UND, the Bulgarian Association announced for FOCUS News Agency. Read more
