Representatives of Customs Administrations of BSEC Member States meet in Istanbul

16 March 2011 | O­n 10-11 March 2011 at BSEC Premises in Istanbul the representatives of Customs Administrations of BSEC Member States held a Working Group Meeting having Turkey, as new Country Coordinator of the Group, following the successful leadership of Ukraine (see list of participants)

The meeting considered its Action Plan for 2011-2012 and revised its Terms of Reference. Also considered the possibility to establish a mechanism of exchange of preliminary information among the interested Customs Administrations of the BSEC Member States (see the Agenda of the Meeting)

Following the decision of the 18th Meeting of BSEC-URTA General Assembly in Geneva o­n 3rd November 2010, and the Resolution adopted by the IRU General Assembly o­n 4th November 2010 (see IRU Resolution) the International Secretariat of the BSEC-URTA made a presentation o­n the extensive usage of X-Ray technology for scanning the commercial vehicles while crossing the borders of BSEC Member States.BSEC-URTA representative requested the Working Group to give a special attention to this issue by including it in the Action Plan and by considering it at an expert group level.

The Working Group o­n customs matters agreed to consider BSEC-URTA proposals at its next meeting to be held under the Russian Federation Chairmanship of BSEC Organization to start 1 July, 2011.
