Field visit of some Border Crossing Points along the Balkan road transport corridors of BSEC region

А delegation of the BSEC-URTA International Secretariat paid site visits during 2 -  5 March 2020 to some Border Crossing Points along the Balkan road transport corridors. It was done in compliance with the BSEC-URTA short term priorities for 2020 and in order to assess the actual situation in regard to the border crossing waiting times and the related problems faced by the drivers, in particular due to immigrants forcing and penetrating the commercial compartments of vehicles.

2 March 2020: Kapikule (TR) – Kaptan Andreevo (BG)

  • Turkish border parking areas fully loaded with vehicles (approx.1100 trucks). According to the interviewed drivers the time needed for waiting for the entry in the Customs area, fulfillment of border crossing procedures on both TR and BG sides and exit the BG border is from 24 hrs up to 36 hrs.
  • Parking areas at Kapikule have necessary facilities for a decent spending by drivers of the waiting time for crossing the border.
  • BSEC-URTA team also visited BSEC-URTA Member UND's Kapikule Representative and it was observed and agreed that there is no solid illegal refugee threat on trucks waiting for fulfillment of border crossing procedures.
  • The length of the queue of trucks waiting in Bulgaria to cross the border was longer than 14 km. No existing facilities for drivers along the road conducting to the Kaptan Andreevo border and there is only a small parking area at the entry in the Customs zone at the border.

 

2 March 2020: Kalotina (BG) – Gradina (SRB)

 

  • The length of the queue of trucks waiting in Bulgaria to cross the border into Serbia was not longer than 400 m.
  • The length of the queue of trucks waiting in Serbia to cross the border into Bulgaria was not longer than 250 m.
  • No solid illegal refugees threat on trucks waiting for fulfillment of border crossing procedures.

 

3 March 2020: Belgrade, Premises of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia  

  • Upon the kind invitation of the  Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia, BSEC-URTA delegation  paid a visit to the premises in Belgrad.
  • During a friendly meeting parties discussed cooperation opportunities between both organizations, illegal refugees problems at the border of Serbia and Croatia and at the border of Serbia with Hungary.
  • BSEC-URTA delegation invited the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia to participate to its General Assembly to be held on 1 June 2020 in Thessaloniki as well as to consider joining BSEC-URTA family as Member or Observer.

 

4 March 2020: Batrovci (SRB) – Bajakovo (CR)

 

  • The length of the queue of trucks waiting in Serbia to cross the border into Croatia was not longer than 1,2 km.
  • A Police car was monitoring the queue of trucks.
  • The length of the queue of trucks waiting in Serbia to cross the border into Bulgaria was not longer than 600 m.
  • No solid illegal refugees threat on trucks waiting for fulfillment of border crossing procedures (two people observed on the bushes next to the road side) .

 

4 March 2020: Horgos (SRB) – Roszeke (HU)

 

  • The length of the queue of trucks waiting in Serbia to cross the border into Hungary was not longer than 1,2 km.
  • The length of the queue of trucks waiting in Hungary to cross the border into Serbia was not longer than 400 m.
  • No solid illegal refugees threat on trucks waiting for fulfillment of border crossing procedures (five people observed on the bushes next to the road side 3 km far from Horgos border) .

 

4 March 2020:  Nagylak (HU) – Nadlac (RO)

 

  • The length of the queue of trucks waiting in Hungary to cross the border into Romania was not longer than 0. 2 km.
  • The length of the queue of trucks waiting in Romania to cross the border was longer than 7 km. No facilities for drivers exist along the road conducting to the Nadlac border and there is only a small parking area at the entry in the Customs zone at the border.

 

6 March 2020:   Giurgiu (RO) – Ruse (BG)

 

  • The length of the queue of trucks waiting in Romania to cross the border into Bulgaria was not longer than 400 m.
  • The length of the queue of trucks waiting in Bulgaria to cross the border into Romania was not longer than 500 m.

 

All notes and observations were recorded by BSEC-URTA delegation for BSEC-URTA Working Party on Border Crossing Problems and for their presentation to the BSEC organs on transport and customs related meetings.
