Balkan power in management to strengthen BSEC-URTA

The 37th Meeting of the BSEC-URTA General Assembly was held in Istanbul on 2 April 2021 in hybrid format with both physical and virtual participation of all its members.

Esteemed guests, IRU Secretary General Umberto De Pretto and BSEC Deputy Secretary General H.E. Amb. Traian Chebeleu strengthened the General Assembly with their participation in accordance with the tradition of BSEC-URTA partnership with IRU and BSEC.

The first lady president in the history of BSEC-URTA Mrs. Asli Calik handed over the Presidency of BSEC-URTA to Mr. Eduart Kasa, General Director of ANALTIR.

During the four years term of office leadership of Mrs Calik , the BSEC-URTA Management Council (Deputy President Georgy Petarnechev, Vice President Elena Medvedeva, Vice President Eduart Kasa and Secretary General Adrian Albu) contributed a lot to the Union's activities and achievements.

A start has been made on the digitization of BSEC permit system, BSEC permit quota have been significantly increased, the BSEC-URTA commercial enterprise has been launched and governments awareness has been continuously raised on the need for safe, secure truck parking areas having decent conditions for accommodating drivers at land and maritime border crossing points and along main road corridors of the BSEC region.

Mr. Eduart Kasa as newly elected President of BSEC-URTA stated that, together with the BSEC-URTA family, he is ready to challenge the difficult times the sector faces today. Mr. Eduart Kasa proposed the General Assembly the appointment of Mrs. Olivera Miovska, representative of AMERIT, as Deputy President with term of office as of 2 April 2021 - 31 December 2022.

The General Assembly also elected the Vice Presidents of the BSEC-URTA with the term of office 2 April 2021 – 31 December 2022: Ms. Nino Chkheidze, representative of GIRCA, and Mr. Fatih Sener, representative of UND.

The BSEC-URTA General Assembly took note on the strong impact COVID19 Pandemic had in 2020 on the global and regional trade and transport as presented by the IRU Secretary General, Mr. Umberto de Pretto, and strongly supported the recovery measures proposed by the IRU to governments and international organizations.

General Assembly approved the Activity Report on the BSEC-URTA priorities for 2020, Working program and Budget for 2021.

The meeting was also marked by another significant moment for the BSEC-URTA family. In accordance with the decision of the 37th General Assembly a new observer joined the BSEC-URTA - the Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (ICCIMA).

The next meeting of the BSEC-URTA General Assembly is decided to be held in autumn 2021 (date tbc) in Istanbul, Turkey.
