European Comission supported BSEC-URTA's call for mitigating COVID-19 restrictions at Evzoni BCP of Greece with North Macedonia

BSEC-URTA International Secretariat received the answer from Cabinet of Transport Comissioner Her Excellency Adina Valean on the support of Union’s call for solving the proplem on Evzoni border crossing point (BSP).

The measures introduced at the border crossing point of Evzoni early March have indeed

severely impacted the border crossing time of lorry drivers to Greece. Recognising the

seriousness of the situation, the Commission quickly acted and started discussions with

the Greek Government including a letter Commissioner Vălean sent to her Greek

counterpart in order to find a solution that is mutually beneficial to all parties”, - Mr. Walter Goetz wrote on behalf of Ms. Valean.

Mr. Goetz informed that the Greek government has already amended the original measures by the beginning of April and assured that the Commission services continue engaging with the Greek authorities on this matter. Click here to check the letter.

BSEC-URTA called on European Commission and Hellenic government to consider the following demands of the transport sector from the region:

  • 24/7 working hours on Evzoni

  • Opening Dojrani and Niki border crossing points with full or partial working hours

  • Measuring the temperature of drivers and testing only if there are symptoms for it.
