BSEC Secretary General H.E. Ambassador Michael B. Christides left his post for H.E. Ambassador Lazar Comanescu

43rd Meeting of the Council of Ministers of foreign affairs of the BSEC Member States was held online on 30 June 2021. BSEC-URTA was represented by Mr. Eduart Kasa, the President, and Mr. Adrian Albu, the Secretary General.

During the metting Mr. Kasa made his intervention in which informed about the losses of the sector because of COVID-19 pandemic and role of BSEC-URTA in these difficult times.

Also, Mr. Kasa informed the attendees about the call on governments of BSEC Member States, which was made during the BSEC-URTA General Assembly meeting on 2 April 2021.

• Keep national and international mobility and supply chains operational, while ensuring safe working conditions for transport workers.

• Encourage targeted financial support measures for road transport operators to address the current liquidity crisis and prevent mass bankruptcies.

• Encourage the use of digital tools that already exist, including eTIR, e-CMR and e-ticketing, which facilitate the flow of goods and passengers across borders without physical human contact.

• Recognise road transport workers as key workers and award them the same protection as other vital service workers during the Covid-19 response, including vaccination priority.

Besides, BSEC-URTA President thanked H.E. Ambassador Michael B. Christides for the 6 years of visionary guidance and commitment to the road transport activities developed by the BSEC Organization and welcomed H. E. Ambassador Lazar Comanescu in taking in charge as Secretary General with strong belief in continuation of the excellent work done so far for the road transport industry by the Permanent International Secretariat of BSEC.
